Academy Background

• In the beginning- Mrs. Susy Winfrey's Vision
About six years ago I started to receive subtle hints from the Lord about organizing a school. I fervently started praying about this. I kept hearing and reading about Jesus' words, like "Come unto me little children", and "Let the little children come to Me". I saw early on that children need the Lord at a young age in order to become mature Christians and good citizens. I saw that some private Christian schools charged so much that the poorer families could not afford to send their children to a safe place to receive a quality education. The more I prayed, I began to see a special need for our youth. This is a critical point in which we need to take a long, hard look at developing these young minds.

How could I ever start a Christian middle school? It seemed impossible. I was moved when I saw a video with children talking about how important it was that the adults paid attention to them; otherwise we could loose them. "You will lose us, you will lose us" they kept repeating. At that point I knew this was from God and something needed to be done!

In the fall of 2001 I visited many different denominational Christian schools and interviewed principals and others who had helped to start Christian schools. With their encouragement and information on all areas of this subject, I proceeded ahead. By the end of January 2002, I began looking seriously for the right Christian board members.

My mind says that as Christians we must never, ever pass up the opportunity to witness. Jesus said we all must be his disciples and to go forth and spread the word. What better way than through a Christian school?

• Acquiring Directors.
Mrs. Winfrey recruited three additional board members to serve as a school board. The team decided it would be best to form a corporation, so corporate forms were filed and submitted to the State of Kansas. We filed for an Employer Identification Number from the IRS and applied for tax exemption status from the IRS. We began regular meetings of the school board in February, 2002.

• Not for Profit Corporation.
Crossroads Christian Academy, Inc. was granted Not-for-Profit status by Kansas on March 20, 2002. The corporation has four directors, including President, Secretary and Treasurer.

• Tax Exemption.
Crossroads Christian Academy, Inc. was granted tax exemption status as an Educational Institution under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code on August 17, 2002. This allows Crossroads Christian Academy the option of offering tax deductions for donations to the Academy. Please contact your tax advisor for information on your gift or donation.

• Current Status.
We are located downtown Leavenworth. On August 14, 2007 our Elementary and Middle school will open its doors at 8:30 AM for the fourth year.
